Amendment to Eco-Sensitive Zone Notification for Son Ghariyal Wildlife Sanctuary: Establishment of Monitoring Committee.

The Central Government, under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, has issued a notification to amend a previous declaration of an Eco-Sensitive Zone around the Son Ghariyal Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh. The amendment includes a new Monitoring Committee structure for overseeing the provisions of the notification.

Key points of the amendment are:

1. Constitution of Monitoring Committee: The committee includes officials such as the Divisional Commissioner of Rewa, district collectors, and representatives from various departments and organizations. The committee is tasked with monitoring and ensuring compliance with the notification's provisions.
 
 

2. Functions of the Monitoring Committee:

- Scrutinize activities listed in the original notification and refer them for environmental clearances.
- Review other activities not listed but within the Eco-Sensitive Zone and consult relevant regulatory authorities.
- File complaints against violations of the notification's provisions.
- Invite experts and stakeholders as needed for assistance.

3. Reporting and Directions:

- The committee must submit an annual action report by June 30th each year.
- The Central Government can issue written directives to the committee for effective functioning.
The amendment aims to enhance monitoring and compliance with environmental protection measures in the Eco-Sensitive Zone.
