Kuldeep Singh Senger, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, was denied bail by the Delhi High Court in connection with the murder of the father of a key witness in the infamous Unnao rape case.

Senger was previously convicted of raping a minor girl in 2017. The victim's father died in police custody under suspicious circumstances in 2018. Senger was subsequently charged with his murder and sentenced to ten years in prison by a trial court.

Senger appealed the conviction, arguing that the evidence against him was weak and that he had already served a significant portion of his sentence. However, the High Court rejected his plea for bail, citing the gravity of the crime.

The court, in its judgement, highlighted the seriousness of murdering a witness in a sensitive rape case. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the potential threat Senger might pose to the victim and other witnesses if released on bail.

This decision by the Delhi High Court emphasizes the importance the justice system places on protecting victims and witnesses, particularly in high-profile cases. Senger will remain in prison while his appeal against the murder conviction proceeds.
