Bail Denied for Trio Accused of Assaulting Police.

Three individuals were denied bail after being accused of assaulting police officers, damaging their car, obstructing justice, and aiding the escape of another suspect. The incident occurred on March 14, 2024, in Melekote, Tumakuru District.

The petitioners, identified as Accused Nos. 4, 5, and 6, allegedly attacked the police officers while they were taking another accused, No. 2, into custody pursuant to a warrant issued by the Chennai City Civil Court. The prosecution presented evidence that the petitioners threatened the officers, threw stones at their car, and even tore the warrant. Accused No. 2 subsequently escaped during the altercation.

The court found the accusations serious, highlighting the attempt to prevent lawful police action and the disruption of law and order. The judge noted that the police officers were acting in accordance with a warrant and presented identification during the incident. Additionally, a witness identification parade held earlier this month confirmed the petitioners' involvement.

The denial of bail was further justified by the ongoing investigation and the fact that two other co-accused, presumably the wife of Accused No. 2 (Accused No. 1) and Accused No. 2 himself, remain at large. The court concluded that releasing the petitioners at this stage would be inappropriate.
