Central Government Amendments to Chandaka Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary Eco Sensitive Zone Notification.

23 August 2024
The Central Government, using its authority under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and related rules, issued a notification in September 2016 to establish an Eco Sensitive Zone around Chandaka Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha. The government now finds it necessary to amend this notification for the public interest.

Under the provisions that allow for public notice to be waived in certain cases, the government has decided to amend the original notification without additional public notice. The amendment involves changes to the composition and responsibilities of the Monitoring Committee overseeing the Eco Sensitive Zone.

The revised notification establishes a Monitoring Committee with a detailed list of members, including various government representatives and experts. The Committee is tasked with scrutinizing activities in the Eco Sensitive Zone, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and referring matters to appropriate authorities for clearances. Additionally, the Committee will file complaints for violations, invite experts as needed, and submit an annual report on its activities. The Central Government reserves the right to issue further directives to the Committee for effective operation.
