The Asiatic Society, Kolkata (ASK), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is facing significant issues. The President of ASK reported that the General Secretary, Treasurer, and most of the elected Council members have resigned due to repeated misconduct by some employees. Additionally, ASK has been repeatedly non-compliant with government directives regarding the settlement of irregular payments and provident fund contributions. The organization has also failed to implement a central government directive from July 2020. To address these issues and ensure the organization's smooth operation, the Central Government has appointed Lt. Col. Anant Sinha, Director of ASK, as Administrator for a period of two years or until further notice.
