On March 7, 2025, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) attached a land parcel linked to Shabir Ali under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with a wildlife smuggling case. The investigation was initiated based on an FIR filed by the Civil Lines Police Station, Raipur, regarding the illegal smuggling of two leopard cubs by Shabir Ali and Rakesh Nishad, with the intent to sell them. The Chhattisgarh Police had earlier filed a charge sheet in 2019. ED's probe has confirmed Shabir Ali’s involvement in smuggling and the illegal sale of wildlife, including birds and animals, violating the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The investigation is ongoing.
