ED Boosts Special Courts to Expedite Money Laundering Trials.

13 July 2025

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has significantly increased the number of Additional Special Courts for trials under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, aiming to expedite proceedings that have faced delays.

In Telangana, the total number of Special Courts has risen to 16, with two specifically designated for Visakhapatnam. Rajasthan has seen its Special Courts increase from one (in Jaipur) to five, now including one for Jodhpur. Goa previously had only one Special Court for the entire state, but now boasts an exclusive Special Court for North Goa.

This expansion is expected to accelerate PMLA trial proceedings considerably and addresses concerns raised by Constitutional Courts regarding the slow pace of money laundering trials.
