In a recent judicial development in Tata Projects Limited vs Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, the Court addressed a petition filed under Section 29A(4) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, seeking an extension for the arbitrator's mandate. This case pertains to a dispute between parties involved in arbitration, with the arbitrator having already reserved the award. As outlined in the petition, the current mandate of the arbitrator expired on August 31, 2024. The Court, having reviewed the situation, noted that the respondent's counsel had no objections to the requested extension.
In light of these considerations, the Court has granted a three-month extension to the arbitrator's mandate, effective from the original expiration date. Consequently, the arbitrator's mandate will now be extended until November 30, 2024. With this order, the petition has been resolved in accordance with the new terms set by the Court.
