24 July 2024
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in Ranchi has secured a major conviction in a cyber fraud case. On July 23, 2024, the Special Court sentenced five accused—Pradeep Kumar Mandal, Pintu Mandal, Ganesh Mandal, Ankush Kumar Mandal, and Santosh Mandal—to five years in prison each. They were also fined Rs. 2.5 lakh each, with an additional six months' imprisonment for defaulting on the fine. The court ordered the confiscation of assets worth about Rs. 68 lakh.

The accused had used fraudulent methods to steal money from bank customers by impersonating bank officials and obtaining OTPs. They transferred the stolen funds through digital platforms and used them to buy assets. The ED’s investigation led to the seizure of cash, vehicles, mobile phones, and properties, which were subsequently confiscated by the court.
