Introduction of ICETABs for Streamlined and Digital Customs Examination Process.

20 August 2024

In alignment with CBIC’s commitment to streamline trade procedures and enhance transparency, the implementation of ICETABs will commence on August 23, 2024. This mobile tablet device is designed to facilitate the real-time examination of import consignments by Customs Officers, allowing them to access RMS Instructions, Examination Orders, and Bill of Entry details directly, capture and upload up to four images of the cargo, and submit examination reports instantly.

This transition to a paperless process aims to improve efficiency by eliminating reliance on printed documents and integrating examination images into the e-Sanchit repository. A detailed advisory on ICETAB use will be issued by DG Systems, and in cases where ICETAB use is not feasible, prior approval from the Assistant Commissioner is required. Commissioners will oversee the implementation, ensuring network connectivity and addressing technical issues. Stakeholders are advised to be informed of these changes, and any difficulties should be reported to the Board.
