Leela Ram, who was convicted for manufacturing illicit liquor in Uttarakhand, has been granted bail by the High Court. The court also admitted his revision petition challenging the conviction and sentence.
Ram was found guilty under Section 60(2) of the U.P. Excise Act, 1910 and sentenced to six months imprisonment with a fine. He appealed the decision but was unsuccessful.
In his revision petition, Ram argues that the entire case against him is fabricated. He claims the police violated Section 53 of the Act by searching his house without proper documentation and failing to record the light source used during the search in the site plan. These discrepancies, according to Ram, cast doubt on the validity of the evidence collected.
The court found merit in Ram's arguments and admitted the petition for further hearing. While the final decision on the conviction is pending, Ram has been granted bail. He can be released upon fulfilling the conditions set by the court.
