The Central Government constituted the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal (MWDT) in 2010 to adjudicate the water disputes related to the Mahadayi River. The MWDT was originally given three years to submit its report and decision, but this deadline was extended several times due to various reasons. The tribunal finally submitted its report and decision in 2018. However, due to further references made by the states involved, the MWDT has continued to work on its report. The Central Government has now extended the deadline for the MWDT to submit its final report until February 2025.
