A court order has put a temporary stop to a New Year's Eve event planned by Kamakazi Solution Pvt. Ltd. The issue stems from a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by a music rights holder.
The Plaintiff, who owns or controls the public performance rights for a vast collection of sound recordings, alleges that Kamakazi will play their copyrighted music at the event without obtaining a license.
The court found that the Plaintiff presented a credible case for copyright ownership and that the Defendant had previously licensed music from the Plaintiff. Additionally, the Defendant did not appear in court to defend themselves despite being served with the lawsuit.
To prevent potential harm to the Plaintiff, the court issued an ad-interim injunction. This order temporarily prohibits Kamakazi from playing the music in question at the event or allowing their venue to be used for that purpose without a license. The Plaintiff's lawyers are required to inform Kamakazi of the order immediately.
The case will be reviewed in court on January 5th, 2024, where a final decision will be made.
