The court addressed the case of The State of Odisha & Others v/s Mahendra Kumar Rout involving the regularization of a daily wage driver who has been in service since April 9, 1997. The State's counsel argued against retroactive regularization, citing that no posts were sanctioned at the time of the driver's initial appointment. The respondent's counsel, however, contended that the driver should benefit from his long service. After considering both sides, the court ruled that regularization would only be effective from the date of post sanctioning on July 21, 2016, rather than from the initial appointment date. The matter was thus resolved, and any pending applications were closed.
