The Supreme Court has admitted Rakesh Sharma to bail who has been in jail custody since January 21, 2025, in a case of cheating and forgery that was lodged in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

A Bench of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi on September 22, 2025, granted the appeal against the August 19, 2025 order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court that had rejected Sharma's plea for relief. Sharma was arrested in Crime No. 21 of 2025 at Garha Police Station and booked under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code.

On considering the case, the Supreme Court ruled that there was justifiable reason to interfere with the order of the High Court and grant bail. The Court ordered Sharma's production before the trial court as soon as possible in order to issue proper bail conditions.

In granting the relief, the Bench made it unequivocally clear that Sharma was required to assist the investigation and trial fully, conduct himself in good behavior, and desist from tampering with witnesses or misusing freedom. The Court also reserved to the trial court the right to revoke the bail if these terms were breached.

The Court further directed the matter to be tried expeditiously, emphasizing the desirability of an early termination of proceedings in the case.
The appeal was hence granted, providing temporary relief to the appellant who had spent eight months in custody.
