Karikho Kri (KK), an independent candidate, emerged victorious in a recent election held in Arunachal Pradesh. However, his win was contested by Nuney Tayang and another candidate who alleged corrupt practices by KK.
The High Court sided with the challengers, finding that KK had not disclosed mandatory information during his nomination filing. Consequently, the High Court declared the election invalid.
KK appealed the High Court's decision to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, after reviewing the case, overturned the High Court's verdict. The Court ruled that the undisclosed information, which included vehicles registered under KK's family members and his prior occupancy of government housing, was not of a nature that would influence voters. The Supreme Court concluded that these omissions did not amount to corrupt practices and upheld the election results, thereby validating KK's victory.
