The Petitioner in the matter of Rahul Surender Sharma v/s Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pune & Others., filed a writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking the confirmation of his admission to the MD Radio Diagnostics course at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pune. He had been allotted a provisional seat on 24th November 2023, with the condition that the payment of fees and submission of documents be completed by 30th November 2023. The Petitioner faced a technical issue in making the required fee payment and was unable to submit all documents by the deadline. Despite making a partial payment and requesting an extension, the college did not entertain his request, leading to the petition.

The Respondents argued that the admission schedule must be strictly followed, citing Supreme Court decisions that emphasize adherence to deadlines for medical admissions. The Petitioner’s late payment and incomplete document submission led to the rejection of his admission, which was justified according to the rules. The Court concluded that, given the established legal precedents, it could not extend the deadline for medical admissions and dismissed the petition, with no costs.
